who we are

We are a team of licensed therapists, certified breath-work practitioners, and Japanese Usui Reiki Masters/Teachers. We are based in New York City and Tulum, Mexico. luum Zama.
Our therapists are experts in complementary and alternative medicine
(CAM) and are graduates of Columbia University SSW with intensive training in Dialectical Behavioral Therapy which is based on Zen Buddhist traditions.
At DAO our approach to healing is based on the intersection of neuroscience and spirituality. It is influenced by a psychiatrist and the founder of transpersonal psychology Stanislav Groff who pioneered holotropic breath-work in the West, and by the neuroscientific research of Dr. Joe Dispenza.
Our personal journey follows the steps of mystic, philosopher, and spiritual teacher
George Gurdjieff, Jiddu Krishnamurti, renowned psychoanalyst Carl Jung, and awakened souls of Ekhart Tolle, Alan Watts, and Richard Alpert.

Usui Shiki Ryoho (the Usui System of Natural Healing, is a Japanese Healing Art. This form was founded in Japan and the basis of the practice is referred to as self-healing/self-treatment. A little over 100 years ago a Japanese man, Mikao Usui, began a personal search that ended with his having contact with the energy Reiki. His practice grew and eventually, Reiki was introduced out of Japan via Hawaii in 1937 by Hawayo Takata Sensei. It is passed on from one person to another through a specific initiation, teachings, and a defined form of practice.
